Actually watching Busch qualifying as I do this. And should be writing a 4 page essay that's due on Monday.
I couldn't help but remember one of my favorite Nascar moments ever that happened exactly one year ago aka during October Lowe's qualifying.
Night. The track is spectacularly lit up. There is a feeling of excitement, of fun. The speeds are fast, the cars shining. Ryan Newman has just made his lap, and not only has he beaten the track record, but he's hit a speed that doesn't even come close to 2nd place. Michael Waltrip is currently in 3rd place and Marty Snider approaches him for an interview. The following conversation took place:
Marty: So, Michael, currently 3rd on the grid, how's the car feel?
Michael: Ah, car's fast, car's good. You know, I consider myself a good person to talk to, fun to interview. But you come talk to me after Ryan Newman does that to the field...I lost all my mojo. Double...stuff...
Marty: Here's our current pole sitter! Ryan, come over here and let Michael tell you what he just told me.
Michael, to Ryan: I said, you can't talk to me after he does that to the field!
Ryan: Hahaha! Well, I've been on the other end of it before!
Marty: Oh really? When.
Ryan: We qualify at Talledega and Daytona!
Marty, to Michael: Can I interview Ryan now?
Michael: No! I was gonna talk about the new double melt stuffed pizza from Domino's.
Marty: When I'm done, do you want me to come find you?
Michael: Please?
Marty: Alright, I'll come find you.
Michael: I got lots of stuff, come back.
I am soo glad I have that on tape. Greatest thing ever. I feel like there was something else I wanted to say but I guess not. Wow, Kasey. 33rd. You moved up from last week. Good job.
